The Primary Wing of D.A.V. P. S, SEC-49 celebrated the English Language by organising a WORLD BOOK WEEK wherein many literary competitions were held and English-related activities were organised. It was a week of flurry and excitement, with the children being fruitfully engaged in various tasks related to the English language.

STORY WRITING COMPETITION

An inter-house Story Writing Competition was held on 24 April. It was a mass competition in which the students were given hints and asked to complete the story using their imagination. The theme of the Story Writing Competition was Adventure. The students wrote interesting stories within the given word limits and impressed the judges with their creative writing skills.

ENGLISH QUIZ AND CHARACTER PARADE COMPETITION

On 26 April an English Quiz was organised for the students of Class V and a Character Parade Competition was organised for the students of Classes III and IV. The quiz was divided into five rounds and the participants were tested on their knowledge of books and authors, vocabulary, grammar etc. The competition which went on for over an hour, was closely contested and kept the audience enthralled. In the Character Parade Competition the participants assumed the role of various literary characters such as Charlie Chaplin, Alice, Birbal, Akbar, Macbeth etc. The students looked and dressed their part and brought these famous book characters to life. This competition provided an opportunity for the latent talent of the students to be aroused as they paraded across the stage casting indelible impressions on the enthusiastic audience. As the participants from each house enacted their role, the stage was transformed temporarily into a scintillating medley of characters. The enactments were judged on the basis of their costume, speech and confidence. The most convincing enactments were awarded prizes.
