Cyber Safety…the need of the hour

It is needless to say that cyber security is the need of the hour…especially for youngsters who tend to use computers profusely. As said by our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi – “I dream of a Digital India where cyber security becomes an integral part of our National Security.” We cannot neglect the significance of cyber security.

Understanding the need to apprise the students about the pros and cons of cyber usage, D.A.V. Public School, sector-49, Gurugram, organized a workshop on Online Cyber Security and Consumer Awareness for the students of classes XI and XII on 29.07.19. This workshop was conducted by Cyber Peace Foundation in collaboration with OLX group.

The event was attended by Capt.Vineet Kumar, founder and president of Cyber Peace Foundation, Ms. Nisha Dua, CPF consultant and OLX group delegate.The session was conducted by Ms. Janice Varghese who created awareness and educated the young users about adopting smart and safe practices for safety and wellness in the online world.It was an interactive session that covered the potential risks of online behavior with regards to mediums such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, to name a few. She then went on to impart information to the students regarding online money transactions, the necessary steps to be taken to ensure safe online transactions, precautions to be taken while buying and selling products online, securing digital consumer protection and ways to report cyber crimes.

The students of classes XI to XII were encouraged to become more mindful of their online behavior and online presentations, especially with regards to the ‘privacy settings’ that must be in place if the students are active on social media.

 It was an eye opener for the students as in their own innocence and immaturity they could land in trouble, but their awareness would be their own protection.
