LITERARY ACTIVITIES

WORLD BOOK DAY

Reading is one of the best constructive habits that anyone can cultivate to reap the benefit of a positive impact on almost every aspect of life. It has been rightly said that    'A child who reads will be an adult who thinks.'At a time when most of the schools around the world are closed and children are stuck at home, the power of reading books should be leveraged to combat isolation, expand their horizons, stimulate their minds and let their creativity blossom. To educate and impart knowledge about the need of reading to the kids of class III to V, DAV Public School, Sector-49, Gurugram conducted a fabulous campaign that can make a huge difference to their lives. On the occasion of World Book Day, children carried out a fantastic array of activities such as story telling through puppets, enactment of their favourite book characters, show and tell about their favourite book etc. These fun activities showcased their inclusive interest in the task and also symbolize the power of books.

flight to the imagination and life to everything..

To encourage students to explore the pleasures of books and reading and to bring them closer to the books and authors, a Literary quiz was organized for the students of grade XI and XII. Through this activity they could explore the treasure of knowledge provided by books.

This activity provided an opportunity for the latent talent of the students to be aroused as they paraded across the stage casting indelible impressions on the enthusiastic audience. As the participants from each house enacted their role, the stage was transformed temporarily into a scintillating medley of characters.

The enactments were judged on the basis of their costume, speech and confidence. The most convincing enactments were awarded prizes.

BOOK REVIEW

“If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your

face like sun beams and you will always look lovely”- Roald Dahl.

STORY - THE GIRAFFE AND THE PELLY AND ME

As Dahl's characters are easy to feel for and their weirdness make them endearing to young readers. The children prepared their book report on this short piece of fiction by Dahl. They used their aesthetic and creative writing skills. They enthusiastically wrote in the given templates expressing and framing beginning, middle and end of the story in their own words. This proved to be a great learning as it was fun filled.
