Workshop on ‘Toy Pedagogy’

DAV Public School, Sector 49, Gurugram, organised a Workshop on ‘Toy Pedagogy’ on 24 March 2025 for educators from Cluster V of DAV schools. The workshop aimed to explore the role of toy-based learning in enhancing creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in students. The resource person, Ms. Charu Maini, Principal of DAV Public School, Sector-49, Gurugram, led the workshop with her insightful guidance and expertise.
The workshop began with an ice-breaking activity focusing on toy designing. Under the guidance of Ms. Charu Maini, participants engaged in hands-on activities, which encouraged creative and logical thinking. The session emphasized the importance of play-based learning in fostering holistic development among students. She showcased various toys crafted by students as part of the school’s special program, Vidya Srijan, which promotes age-appropriate toy designs. She elaborated on the school’s initiatives that encourage toy-based teaching methodologies. Additionally, she introduced participants to online platforms and the school’s YouTube channel, where videos on cost-effective teaching aids and innovative teaching practices are available for educators. She also discussed an Action Research project initiated by the school to implement toy pedagogy at different levels. In the collaborative segment, participants designed subject-specific toys and presented creative ideas such as Fun with Numbers, Magnetic Wonders, Think, Feed, and Lead. These designs were highly appreciated and demonstrated how toy pedagogy can be effectively incorporated into various subjects. A special session on Mindfulness in Education was conducted by Ms. Gargi Chatterjee, a dedicated primary teacher at DAV Public School, Sector-49, Gurugram. She highlighted the significance of mindfulness in classrooms, emphasizing the need for a calm and focused learning environment. The workshop concluded with a toy exhibition featuring student and teacher-created toys. This exhibition provided a platform for idea exchange and reinforced the importance of collaborative learning in education.
