WORLD BOOK DAY (III-V)

The Primary Wing of DAV Public School, Sector-49, Gurugram, celebrated World Book Day by organising an English week in April 2025, wherein many literary competitions were held and English-related activities were organised. It was a week bursting with zeal and excitement, with the children being creatively engaged in various tasks related to the English language. In order to encourage the students to read regularly, D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) Time was scheduled and followed in all the classes where they read a variety of storybooks of their choice.

Children instinctively love storybooks and their fascinating characters such as pretty princesses, gallant princes, powerful kings, gorgeous queens, evil witches, scheming ogres, kind fairies and magical creatures. Through these characters, they are able to learn more about life and the world around them and themselves. These characters live in their hearts and a 'Character Parade' brings them to life!

A Character Parade Competition was organized on 23.04.25 for the students of class III. It was an inter-class competition in which three students from each section participated. All the participants came dressed as a character from their favourite fairytale and gave a brief presentation of 1 minute in which they introduced their character and also spoke briefly about the story. The audience, as well as the judges, were enthralled with the elaborate costumes, apt hairstyles, pretty accessories worn by the participants to get the look of their favourite characters. They won everyone's heart with their adorable get-ups, props and confident presentations. Praavya (3G), Yashvi (3E) and Aadit (3F) won the First prize, Madhav (3B), Kiaan (3E) and Sharanya (3G) won the Second prize, Rihaan (3B), Sargam (3D) and Siddarth (3F) won the Third prize, Kaira (3B) and Kiyara (3C) won the Encouragement prize.

A Mask Making Competition was held for the students of class IV on 22.04.25. It was a mass competition in which the students were given a free hand to bring their artistic vision to life in the form of a mask. They used their imagination and creativity to design bright and colourful eye-catching masks of their favourite characters from English storybooks and novels. .The variety of designs and decorative ideas on the masks made them stand out and proved beyond any doubt the love of the children for reading and art and craft. Aavya (4B) and Mayra (4D) won the First prize, Varshika (4C) and Avleen kaur (4B) won the Second prize, Shanaya Goyal (4B) and Kashvi Yadav (4C), Nimisha Dhiman (4F) and Bhuvika Yadav(4F) won the Encouragement prize.

A Book Cover Designing Competition was held for the students of class V on 22.04.25. in which the students conceptualised and designed a book cover of their favourite book from scratch. It was a mass activity which brought the imagination, artistry and the designing skills of the children to the fore. All the book covers were thoughtfully designed and beautifully made. They were not only exquisite to look at but also highly informative. The judges had a tough time selecting the winners as each book cover looked unique and inviting. Naisha (5D) won the First prize, Aanya (5B) and Mahi (5D) won the Second prize, Arjun (5 C), Ishani (5A) and Tammana (5C) won the Third prize, Riddhi (5A), Arishka (5D) and Chahek (5E) won the Encouragement prize.
