"Every cell carries a story, and genomics is the language that deciphers it.”
The Class XI and XII Medical stream students of DAV Public School, Sector-49, Gurugram, visited the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad on 21st August 2025. The institute, an Institution of National Importance under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, provided students with hands-on exposure to advanced research and cutting-edge laboratory facilities.
The visit began with an orientation by Dr. Poorti, who introduced the institution, its state-of-the-art facilities, and the diverse areas of research undertaken at RCB. Students then explored the Zebra Fish Facility under the guidance of a research scholar from Dr. Rajendra Motiani’s lab, gaining insights into the significance of zebra fish as a model organism in biomedical studies and developmental biology.
At the Plant Genomics Laboratory, Dr. Prashant Pawar guided the students in preparing slides, studying the structure of the plant cell wall, and observing plant anatomy and bringing textbook concepts vividly to life.
In the Molecular Biology Facility, Dr. Shaminder Singh demonstrated fundamental yet powerful techniques such as gel electrophoresis and PCR. Later, in the Genomics Facility, Ankit introduced students to DNA sequencing and genome analysis, helping them understand the applications of molecular biology in modern scientific research.
Students also had the opportunity to interact with scientists and young research scholars, asking questions and connecting classroom learning with real-world research. The visit inspired curiosity, strengthened scientific understanding, and opened doors to future career aspirations in life sciences and biotechnology.
The school extends sincere gratitude to the RCB faculty for their valuable guidance and support, and to our Principal, Ms. Charu Maini, for her constant encouragement and guidance in making this enriching educational experience possible.
