“Mathematics is the knowledge with which God has written the universe”- Galileo
The importance of Mathematics has never been greater than now and for the foreseeable future. Mathematics skills are crucial for a wide array of analytical, technological, scientific, economic and soft skill applications. Training students to become adept users of Mathematics and to appreciate its usefulness is of paramount importance for the future.
The students of our school celebrated November month as Math month in which various activities related to mathematics were conducted. School was decorated with colourful and innovative posters, games, mathematical clocks and models on geometrical art. The primary objective of the celebration was to encourage learners to get involved, to dispel the Math phobia and create a love for the subject and to perceive the connections of mathematical concepts with the life situations.
In celebration of Math week, a 3- Dimensional Geometrical Rangoli Competition was organized for students of Class IX and X. An exhibition of students’ work was displayed. The judges for the competition were Mr. Manmohan Singh, SCERT, DSM and Mr. Sanjeev Mathematics Lecturer in Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Gurugram. The students of Shakti House were adjudged as the best whizkids and secured 1st position and the students of Preeti House grabbed 2nd position. The quest for knowledge of the students of our school met yet another landmark when they participated in Inter House Quizzomania organised for the class VI to VIII. All the participants played remarkably well and depicted their genius in all spheres of mathematics. Jyoti House outshining others emerged the winner.
During this month the students of grades III to V had a class activity. They made monsters using various shapes (Shape Monster), represented fractions using flowers (Blooming Fractions) and made various Tangram shapes. An inter house mental math competition 'Fun With Math' was conducted. Puzzlomania- A quiz based on various math concepts and situations was also the part of the celebration. It was an Inter-House Competition where three participants from each house participated for the top prize! It was a closely contested competition which kept all the participants as well as the audience at the edge of their seats. The students also participated in an Inter House Symmetrical Rangoli Competition. They worked together to make beautiful eye-catching colourful designs.
The celebration of Math month had a distinct flavor at D.A.V.P.S, Sector 49, Gurugram, when hands came together, showcasing the diverse activities and numeracy. The resounding success of the celebrations is the outcome of tireless efforts put in by the resource team comprising of students and Math Faculty, ably guided and well supported by the school principal.
