Public School, Sector-49, Gurugram, organised a three day Capacity Building Workshop, for the teachers (24(Primary)+22(Middle)+15(Secondary))of Social Science for classes III-V from 28-30 June 2017 under the valuable guidance of the school Principal, Ms. Charu Maini .The workshop was conducted by

The schedule of the workshop was as follows:
DAY 1
SESSION 1
Ice breaking activity was conducted. The objective of development of map skills was taken up by the Master Trainers. Importance of maps in geography and history that of cardinal directions, scale, symbols in map were discussed by the Master Trainers. Activities based on cardinal directions-Joes Farm, conventional symbols-Bingo and direction-Poem on directions were conducted by the Master Trainers for the participating teachers.
SESSION 2
In the post lunch session the participating teachers were divided in groups according to classes and chapters were allotted to them to design map questions related to the chapters and then map booklets were designed by them.
DAY 2
SESSION 1
On day 2, the first session was about Study Skills in which the participating teachers learnt about the various problems faced by the students while studying and how they can provide them solutions by introducing them to various study skills or study strategies like- Mnemonics, Mind mapping, Visual-aids, Use of graphic organisers, Use of Flash Cards, Co-operative learning- team work, Note taking etc. They also learnt about how to teach the students time management while attempting the question paper. At the end of the session, a hand on activity was conducted and the participating teachers were asked to prepare a study plan to be followed by the students during examination.
SESSION 2
The second session was about Question Bank. During this session The Master Trainers discussed the following main points with the participating teachers:

The new examination pattern

Blue Print and its importance

The Design of the question paper and its importance
At the end of the session the participating teachers prepared their question banks along with value points according to Bloom’s Taxonomy.
SESSION 3
The post lunch session was conducted on the usage of Open office. Teachers were given required knowledge of Open Office –impress, writer and calc. They were given hands on practice in

Open office writer and its various features like formatting, inserting shapes, pictures, tables and creating hyperlinks.

Open office-impress and its various features like transition effects, animation, layout, designing, inserting graphic organiser, table, audio/ video files in presentation.

Open office – calc and its various features like sorting and formatting, inserting formulas and editing text.
DAY 3
SESSION 1
On the third day the first session was about learning beyond classroom-Field Trips. During this session the participating teachers learnt about the importance of learning beyond classroom and its importance in the learning process of the students.
They also learnt:

How to plan a good field trip?

What are the basic requirements for planning a good field trip?

How to evaluate it?

What should be the rubrics for evaluation?

What safety measures should be taken while planning a field trip?
At the end of the session a hand on activity was conducted during which the teachers planned field trips for class III, IV and V related to the curriculum.
SESSION 2
The post lunch session was in the computer labs where the participating teachers typed their question banks and value points according to a given format. They also prepared a presentation using Open Office -Impress and its various features for the chapters allotted to them by the Master Trainers.
